University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) athletics is taking Mountain Lion pride to the next level with the addition of an Indoor Practice Facility and Baseball Diamond. Bryan Construction, Inc. has been awarded the $12 million contract to provide Construction Management / General Contractor services to complete the two-phase project.
This project is a piece of the UCCS 2020 Master Plan, which was established in 2012, to provide a “consolidated athletic precinct” on the North side of the Campus just off North Nevada. With the revitalization of the North Nevada corridor, the facilities will be easily accessible for the student body (and the Colorado Springs community) to support the University’s athletic programs, while helping the school remain competitive in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) and national programs.
The University approved fundraising efforts in September 2016 for the Practice Facility and Baseball Field. Since the award, Bryan Construction has worked closely with UCCS and NV5 Engineering to provide extensive pre-construction services which include the design concept and utility plans. The goal is to establish a clear construction path which will provide sustainable facilities while assessing how the pieces of Master Plan will continue to unfold and allow for even more future expansion.
Bryan Construction is acutely familiar with athletic enclosure construction. Starting with the construction of the U.S. Olympic Velodrome cover, Bryan Construction also constructed the Cheyenne Mountain Sports Bubble and the Flying Horse Sports Bubble. Each facility has offered its own unique criteria, and the UCCS facility will follow suit as it will be built using a framed and stretched durable fabric structure. The University intends for the project to qualify as LEED Gold.
The baseball diamond will be build adjacent to the Athletic Facility and will host bleachers, restroom facilities, ticket booths and concessions. Currently, the UCCS baseball team is practicing and competing at contracted satellite facilities.
“Bringing athletics directly onto campus is the beginning of a new chapter for UCCS athletics,” says Doug Woody, Bryan Construction Project Executive, “Without a doubt, this construction will lead to student body growth and increased pride at UCCS. I’m excited we can be a part of their story.”
Bryan Construction expects to begin in May 2017 with completion expected in early 2018.
