At Fort Carson, Colo., we completed a 119,000-square-foot facility that houses the administrative and command operations of the 10th Special Forces, as well as associated hardstands, parking for 347 vehicles, covered storage areas, a security fence, utility infrastructure, and armories. The project also included a 4-acre geothermal field to reduce electrical demand for heating and cooling. Further work included the design and construction of an addition to house a maritime operations facility and parachute-rigging storage. The completed building was LEED-certified “Silver” by the U.S. Green Building Council.
At Peterson Air Force Base, we recently built a new, 36,731-square-foot structure on a 14-acre site provides the U.S. Air Force’s 76th Space Control Squadron, with office, maintenance, storage and high-bay space, and a Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility.
Construction encompassed two-story masonry, brick and metal panels for the building shell, aluminum sunshades, blast-resistant curtain walls, EPDM roofing, metal-stud framing, high-end interior finishes, an Energy Management Control System, and extensive security systems, including electrical, metal cages and sound attenuation.
Additionally, the project was built to meet LEED Silver certifications, including such sustainable-construction features as water-efficient design, optimization of energy performance, certified wood, low-VOC materials, sunshades, and a high-performance mechanical system.
