SNC Hangar 3

Colorado Springs

The Sierra Nevada Corporation C-130 Hangar is a 30,500-square-foot, single-bay hangar, sized for Boeing 737, C-130, or A320 aircraft. Designed for a Department of Defense contract, the hangar serves as a modification facility to outfit aircraft with special instrumentation. The pre-engineered metal building structure included two restrooms, an IT Closet, a Fire Entry room, and a Compressor Room, with an epoxy floor coating throughout. The hangar was conditioned with approximately eight ceiling-mounted, gas-fired radiant tube heaters and two large destratification fans.

The project also included a new water main, a lined detention pond with interlock to the foam suppression system, and an aircraft apron outside the hangar bay doors. This apron had to be coordinated with a new taxiway expansion project (by another contractor). We also added concrete flatwork and a new parking lot with all new utility services including gas, storm sewer, sanitary sewer, electric, telecom, domestic water, and fire suppression. This project required coordination with the Colorado Springs Airport and Peterson Air Force Base, and was designed and constructed in accordance with the FAA Advisory Circular 150/5320-6F.
